About KniTros Lacrosse On behalf of the coaching staff for what is currently known as the "KniTros" girls lacrosse program, I want to welcome you to the fastest growing sport in America. Lacrosse is catching on fast! The KniTros are a combined lacrosse club from Anderson and McCallum High Schools. We practice in the fall (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) at Murchison Middle School. Our first practice is slated to start on Tuesday, November 8th. We will run practices through the week of December 12th and it is our hope for a scrimmage game against Austin High to finish our "fall ball" practice schedule that week. Winter practice will ramp up on the week of January 5th with a full slate of Central Texas Division II games starting in February. Our head coach is Marissa Erhart. Coach Erhart is a 2006 Anderson graduate who played for the KniTros. She participated in collegiate lacrosse all four years at Texas State in San Marcos. Assisting Coach Erhart will be Coach Caroline Schramm. Coach Schramm in an Austin High graduate who is currently a sophomore at UT playing for the Longhorns. She is the UT Lacrosse Club Vice-President. Both coaches are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of this game and the overall philosophy of our club is for our girls to have fun! Let me briefly explain our dues. Because of the current economy, we will hold the line on club dues this year. There will not be an increase in dues from last season. We only charge $325.00 total for fall ball and the winter/spring season. That is a bargain when you consider that the men's program at Anderson when I was club President back in 2009, had a yearly package price of $750.00. Today the men's program charges $800.00 per year, not including equipment and uniform fees. Our coaches are paid from our dues as well as league fees, officials and club insurance costs. For first year players, we negotiated a low price for a starter equipment kit with SouthSwell Sports. Lastly, it is my belief that it is in the best interests of our club to merge with the men's program at Anderson sometime in the near future. Many high schools in the Austin metro area have already merged their women's/men's clubs. One web site, one board and one account will streamline and strengthen both programs. However, the key to grow both of our teams in NW Austin is through a feeder program starting in elementary school and middle school. Lake Travis ISD, Leander ISD, Eanes ISD (Westlake HS) and WAYA (Austin High) are building through these types of lacrosse feeder programs. Someday, lacrosse will be a UIL sport in Texas. It is inevitable. Merging our teams through one board prepare us for the future. Look for information to arrive for a parent meeting sometime in January before our season starts.
